Recap of an unforgettable weekend of culture, food, music, and dance

San Francisco came alive with the vibrant sights, sounds, and flavors of Slavic heritage at San Francisco’s Slavic Festival 2026, held January 31 and February 1 at the Russian Center of San Francisco. From traditional folk music to family fun, the festival delivered a rich cultural experience that had everyone smiling and celebrating together.
"I love the Festival. Slavic people have a lot to celebrate: culture, traditions, marvelous cuisine, and music!"
Music & Dance Galore
Festival stages buzzed with 35 live shows with over 200 performers throughout the two days. Attendees were treated to:
Dynamic folk dances from groups like Lowiczanie, Vladimir Riazantsev and Mladost Folk Dance Group
Soulful harmonies from Slavyanka, Kitka Trio and Marina V
Bulgarian, Serbian and Eastern European rhythms courtesy of Gypsy Duo, Iskra Etno, and SF Balalika Ensemble
A mix of jazz, traditional songs, and performances from Balkanera Band, Levitation Trio, Zsa-Zsa Duo, and more
Group singing around the piano and Bulgarian Horo dancing with Sveta Sofia
The energy was infectious, with children and adults alike getting swept up in the rhythm, showing off their moves during live folk dance sets and participatory performances on both days.
"The Slavic Festival is where history dances, tradition sings and home exists for a day - no matter where you're from."
Delicious Traditional Flavors
Food lovers enjoyed an array of authentic Slavic foods, from blini with classic toppings to savory zakuski (Slavic tapas) to Polish sausage and bigos. Sweet tooths weren’t left out either, with cakes, pastries, and Slavic tea available at the dessert booth.
Special highlights included sampling three styles of Rakiya, a traditional Serbian plum brandy and 19 savory and sweet flavors of vodka, adding spirited flair to the festivities for adults.
Activities & Community Favorites
The festival went beyond food and music with engaging activities for all ages:
Folk dance master classes that had attendees stepping in time and learning traditional Polish dance moves
A fun costume contest, where participants showcased stunning traditional dress for prizes
A lively Kids Village packed with games, crafts and cultural activities, especially popular among families
Handmade crafts, unique gifts, and artisan booths dotted the venue, offering festivalgoers treasures to take home and to remember the weekend.
