Romance & Revolution concert at Silverado Winery, featuring all-Russian composers

Saturday, August 23rd | 5:00 p.m.

Silverado Winery | Napa, CA

Music in the Vineyards is a chamber music festival in Napa featuring nationally acclaimed musicians performing in Napa Valley's most iconic wineries.

The August 23rd Romance & Revolution all-Russian concert program features three prominent composers of the Romantic era who lived through the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution, which led to the rise of the Soviet Union. Life under the new communist regime was especially hard for artists. Rachmaninoff left Russia early on, and Glazunov eventually followed. Shostakovich, however, stayed for the rest of his life. The Soviet government promoted him as a model composer who supported its ideals, but after his death, it became clear that he deeply resented the system and those who controlled it.

Romance & Revolution Concert

  • Sergei Rachmaninov: Trio élégiaque no. 1 in G minor

  • Alexander Glazunov: String Quintet in A major, Op. 39

  • Dmitri Shostakovich: String Quartet no.9 in E-flat major Op. 117

Tickets are $85 and can be purchased at Music in the Vineyards
